Why Jaipur jewellers should file early
Jaipur’s jewellery trade runs on names: a family firm in Johari Bazaar, a gem export house in Sitapura, or an Instagram label selling silver and kundan pieces. The name is what repeat buyers ask for, and it is the first thing copycats borrow.
Many Jaipur jewellery firms follow the same pattern: a family or deity name plus “Jewellers”, “Gems” or “Arts”. That makes the Registry crowded, so two names that look different on a shop board can still be refused as similar. A search before filing tells you whether your name is safe to build on.
Once you file, you can use ™ on tags, boxes, pouches, invoices and your website straight away. Marketplaces such as Amazon ask for your trademark application or registration number when you enrol your brand.

Most jewellers start with class 14, and add class 35 if the shop or website name is the brand. Each class has its own government fee, so we suggest only what you need.

Jewellery-specific points we check before filing
Hallmark is not a trademark
BIS hallmarking and the HUID number certify the purity of each piece. They do not protect your brand name. A jeweller needs both.
Craft words cannot be owned
Words that describe the product, such as Kundan, Polki, Meenakari, Jadau or Sterling Silver, cannot be registered on their own. Protection comes from the distinctive part of your name or your logo.
Place names and GI products
“Jaipur” on its own is a place name and is hard to register. Names protected as Geographical Indications, such as Blue Pottery of Jaipur, are reserved for authorised producers. We help you build the mark around your own name.
Hindi and English versions
Many Jaipur brands use the name in Devanagari and English on boards and boxes. Filing both versions, or a logo that carries both, gives you wider protection.

Questions from Jaipur jewellers
Which class should a jewellery shop file in?
Class 14 covers the jewellery itself. If your shop or website name is the brand, add class 35 for retail. If you make pieces to order for other brands, class 40 covers that service. We confirm the right classes in the free check.
Does BIS hallmarking protect my brand name?
No. Hallmarking and the HUID number certify the gold or silver purity of each piece. Only a trademark gives you rights over the brand name.
Can I register a name like “Jaipur Gems” or “Kundan Jewellers”?
Usually not as it stands, because both words describe the place or the product. Adding a distinctive word, such as your family name or a coined name, or registering a logo, makes the mark registrable.
Which Registry office handles Jaipur?
Rajasthan falls under the Trade Marks Registry office in Ahmedabad. We file online, so you never need to visit.
